As a result of a few accidents and general ageing, I hadn’t ridden for six months and, getting back on my very sensitive mare, realised most of our ‘issues’ were no fault of hers, but my wonkiness and lack of muscle strength. I have had rare lessons over the years, but found there is a tendency to ’treat’ the ‘problem’ not look at the ‘cause', hence why I turned to Amanda. She is SUPER! I am learning so much about how even the slightest weight and/or balance adjustment affects your mount. I am gradually getting more correct in my position, and finding riding my mare even more of a joy than ever, as she instantly responds to the changes Amanda is making. Amanda is very good at helping you adjust your position and seat, so you work with/ compliment your horse, and has endless patience. A lot of horses would be a lot happier, and work better, in simpler tack, if more riders adopted Amanda’s approach I think. Angela May & Suena
I have been riding for over 30 years however during that time I have had very little formal tuition. As is the case with many riders I did a lot of Riding Club and Pony Club activities as a teenager and in my early twenties. I then had my son and continued to ride but less frequently and as a ‘happy hacker’. Last year I bought myself a lovely new horse and decided that I would like to start competing again. My horse is quite green and I am very rusty so I was delighted to find Amanda.
I do not have the skill, suppleness or confidence I once had and Amanda was very tolerant of my many faults. Amanda has tremendous empathy with horse and rider and we improved greatly under her watchful eye. I started jumping after a 12 year break. Amanda really helped us gain confidence. We spent a lot of time jumping lots of small fences ensuring that we had mastered one stage before moving on to the next. There are many instructors who approaching jumping exercises almost as a ‘Chase me Charlie’ competition making the fences higher and higher without mastering the basics and saying ‘come on the horse has the skill to it’ which has the effect of making you feel useless and destroying what little confidence the horse and rider may have. Amanda would NEVER do that.
My horse and I have now got a number of confident clear rounds under our belt all thanks to the groundwork we have done with Amanda’s help. Unfortunately for me Amanda has now relocated and we really miss her!! However if you live near Amanda and need some help with your riding – pick up the phone she’s brilliant.
Best wishes, Juliet and Ruby
